Indiana State Police say a Muncie man was killed and another seriously injured early today along U-S 31 in southern Miami County.
Investigators say the men were riding a moped along the highway when they were struck by a trash truck at about 2:30 this morning. The victims were ejected from the moped and one of them was then struck by another truck that did not stop.
State Police say 57-year old Terry Smith of Muncie was pronounced dead at the scene. 56-year old Mark Raines of Muncie was flown to Lutheran Hospital in Fort Wayne with serious injuries.
State Police say the driver of the trash truck that first struck the victims stopped, but the other truck did not. Police are now searching for that vehicle.
