Farmer Seeks Permit For 9,000 Hog Operation

A local farmer is seeking a permit to build a hog-raising operation in northern Grant County that could house more than nine-thousand hogs.
The operation would be a wean to finish operation on a 40-acre site located along State Road 15 at Grant County road 500 North.  Nolan Holloway wants to erect two large buildings on the site to handle about 46-hundred hogs each of various sizes.  The cost of building the two barns and the accompanying facilities would be approximately 1.8-million dollars.
Holloway has applied for permits for the Confined Feeding Operation.  Neighbors say they have concerns about manure and smell from the facility if it’s built.
The facility needs approval from the Indiana Department of Environmental Management and local zoning officials.
