Elwood Supt. Commits Fraud To Help Sick Student

The Superintendent of Elwood Community Schools has admitted to committing insurance fraud…to get medication for a sick student.
Casey Smitherman took a 15-year-old student with a sore throat to an Elwood med-check earlier this month. Court records say she used her son’s name to check the boy in at the clinic and get a prescription filled at a C-V-S. She faces several felony charges, including fraud and official misconduct.
But Madison County prosecutors say those charges will be dropped as long as Smitherman doesn’t get arrested again within the next year.
