Plan To Raise Tobacco Purchasing Age Passes Senate Committee

An Indiana Senate committee yesterday voted in favor of raising the minimum age to buy or sell tobacco products and e-liquids.
The bill authored by Senator Randy Head of Logansport would increase the legal age to buy tobacco products and e-liquids from 18 to 21 and would also prevent anyone under 18 from entering designated smoking areas in clubs and cigar stores.
Health studies indicate that in Indiana, nearly 22-percent of adults smoke, which is higher than the national average, and nearly one-third of all cancer deaths are attributed to smoking.
