Indiana House Passes Vaping Liquids Tax Bill

The Indiana House has passed a bill to start taxing the liquids used in electronic cigarettes.
House members voted 53-to-40 yesterday in favor of the proposal setting a 4-cents per-milliliter vaping liquid tax.
While some legislators questioned whether the bill would be creating a new tax, bill sponsors say it’s aimed at taxing a nicotine product similar to how cigarettes are taxed.
Bill sponsors say the tax could also discourage vaping, which they argue leads young users to cigarette smoking.
A legislative report estimates the tax could bring in between two and four-million dollars a year.
The proposal now goes to the Senate for consideration.
