May’s rainfall within inches of 1892 record

Grant County came within three inches of a rain fall record this past May, according to Jeff Mast, lead operations specialist at Marion Utilities.
The county’s record for rain fall during May has remained unbeaten since 1892, when the county received 11.97 inches.
This May the county received 9.2 inches of rain, with the single largest daily rainfall at 2.28 inches.
Due to excessive rain only roughly two percent of corn has been planted and only around two percent of soy has been planted, according to Purdue Agriculture Educator Stephanie McCulley.
