Insurers warn of fireworks damage

It’s no secret that you have to be careful when firing off fireworks, but if you need some extra motivation to be cautious, take a look at your homeowners or renters insurance policy.
The Indiana Department of Insurance is warning Hoosiers that accidental damage caused by fireworks that are banned in their counties may not be covered.
Many insurance policies contain provisions disclaiming coverage for illegal acts committed by the insured. However, if the damage is done by another person’s use of fireworks, you might be able to claim benefits.
