Portage police chief shares why town is experiencing 33-year-low in crime

Crime in Portage is at a 33-year-low, Portage Police Chief Troy Williams announced Monday.
Increased community involvement has contributed to a decrease in thefts and violent crimes, Williams told The Times of Northwest Indiana. Williams said neighbors are sharing information and paying more attention to what’s going on in their neighborhoods.
He said apps like NextDoor and surveillance cameras like Ring are also helping people become more involved.
