Falling bear lands atop California police officer’s car, then ‘fled the scene’

As most people know, bears are among the most dangerous land animals in North America. But falling bears are even worse.
One Humboldt County sheriff’s deputy found that out as he was speeding along California’s Highway 96, responding to a call of a possible overdose.
According to a statement released by the California DOT, the patrol vehicle was suddenly “struck by a falling bear,” causing it to veer across the centerline, plow into an embankment and burst into flames.
The deputy managed to escape with minor injuries, and the bear “also fled the scene,” the statement says.
