IU study argues manufactured homes could solve housing affordability crisis

An IU study argues manufactured housing deserves more consideration as a solution to housing affordability.
The study by five MBA students argues government regulation gets in the way of home buyers considering manufactured housing — zoning laws may allow those homes only in trailer parks, and federal mortgages may carry a higher rate because the homes are treated as personal property instead of as houses.
Indiana is home to seven trailer-home manufacturers, but the state is slightly below the national average in the number of people who actually live in those homes.
Manufactured housing accounts for about one in 20 Indiana homes.
