Police: Marion man shot early Sunday morning

One person was shot in Marion early Sunday morning, according to a press release by MPD Capt. Stephen Dorsey.
Police were called to the scene around 3:31 a.m. to the 2000 block of South Gallatin St. Upon arrival, police located Ernest Smith Jr., 61, lying in the roadway. Smith reported that he had been shot in the right thigh during a drug deal gone bad.
Smith was first treated at Marion General Hospital, then transported to a Fort Wayne Hospital. Smith’s injury is non-life threatening.
Smith reported after being shot the suspect fled the area in a dark-colored vehicle.
The investigation is still active.
