U.S. Steel in East Chicago to layoff more than a hundred workers

Layoffs are coming to U.S. Steel in East Chicago. Nearly half of the company’s 300 workers at their Lake County tin mill will be out of work in the coming months and with that will be closing the plant.
U.S. Steel is blaming the low price of importing the same tin mill products they manufacture.
They say imported tin mill products make up half the U.S. market and that it’s no longer profitable to make those products here in the U.S.
U.S. Steel says the plan to retain half of their tin mill workers in East Chicago and find them jobs at their Gary Works steel mill or their Midwest Plant in Portage.
