Madison County Council votes down shared regional jail

There will be no shared jail for Madison and Henry Counties.
The Madison County Council voted to end talks with Henry County about the possibility of building a shared regional jail with space for up to 500 inmates.
The Council instead suggested county commissioners conduct a feasibility study for a new jail in Anderson, according to The Herald Bulletin.
The proposed facility would have been the first regional jail in Indiana. Madison Co.
Councilman Steve Sumner said he didn’t believe the plan was the “right fit” for Madison County, reported The Herald Bulletin.
Sheriffs from both counties said they weren’t opposed to the plan, but had questions about inmate transportation and facility costs.
