As concerns over the dangers of vaping continue to spread, India has become the latest country to ban the smokeless fad.
India lawmakers on Wednesday approved a countrywide ban on all types of electronic nicotine delivery systems, including vape pens, e-cigarettes and e-hookah devices. Among the countries that have already banned the practice are Argentina, Brazil, Cambodia, Jordan, Thailand and the united Arab Emirates.
“Unfortunately, e-cigarettes got promoted initially as a way in which people can get out of the habit of smoking cigarettes,” says Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman. “It was to be a weaning process from using cigarettes.
The Cabinet rightly thought it is time and we immediately took a decision so that the health of our citizens, of our young, is not thrown to a risk.”
