Madison-Grant adds local twist to ‘Career Day’

Who really knows what they want to do when they grow up? Madison-Grant High School students will have access to ask questions of adults working in the real world to help them find out.
This Thursday at 8:10 a.m., Madison-Grant students will hear from professionals across multiple disciplines and fields.
From Fashion Design to politics, students will have an opportunity to sit down in small groups with professionals to find out about their journey and give them the opportunity to ask questions. Many of the speakers are Madison-Grant graduates, with the keynote speaker for all students Dr. Jason Callahan, the superintendent of Wabash Community Schools. Dr. Callahan is a 1994 Madison-Grant graduate.
Counselor Gwen Hodson says of the event, “It has been amazing to see so many of our graduates work in diverse fields, and we really want to share with our students the limitless opportunities available after graduation.”
Students will start the day with the keynote speaker Dr. Callahan, and then be able to choose four speakers in fields of their interest to attend in small groups.
Dr. Callahan talks about the importance of the introduction of a Career Day at the high school level, “Careers should be based on individual passions. I believe the awareness created through career day is vital in providing students the gateway to find their true passions.”
By utilizing graduates from Madison-Grant, Counselor Gwen Hodson hopes, “students who may previously not have been aware of the field of the speaker can now see themselves in previous graduates. Students from Madison-Grant have achieved at all levels, and in fields across industries.
They don’t always get to see that in the hallways, so we felt it was important to bring the outside world to our students.” Dr. Callahan says “We constantly strive to shorten the distance between aspiration and attainment. Utilizing former graduates to discuss their attainment helps to accomplish this goal.”
Speakers range from those in technical fields to graduates in design & sciences. For a full list of speakers click here.
