Hoosier hero and Vietnam vets remains brought home decades later

If you noticed flags around Indianapolis were at half mass Saturday, that’s because the city was welcoming a Hoosier hero home.
Fifty-one years ago, US Army First Lieutenant Alan Bardach, was killed in a helicopter crash in Vietnam in 1968.
The 24-year-old’s remains were recovered, but at the time he couldn’t be identified.
He was laid to rest with a group burial in Missouri, until recently when the DPAA was able to match his DNA with family members.
Saturday a burial with full military honors was held at Crown Hill Cemetery.
Bardach was a graduate of Broad Ripple High School and Purdue University.
