Kokomo woman injured in crash with ISP trooper

An Indiana State Police trooper was in car crash on Monday afternoon in Kokomo.
ISP says Trooper Aaron Schaal, 43, was in his police car on U.S. 931 when he passed through the intersection at Center Road, and a car driven by Debra Attebury, 62, of Kokomo, tried to turn and hit the police car on the driver’s side.
Police say Schaal had a green light, and Attebury’s light was flashing yellow, meaning she had to yield to oncoming traffic.
Attebury was taken to a hospital with non-life threatening injuries. Schaal was not injured.
Master Trooper Schaal was on-duty, on routine patrol, at the time of the crash. He is an 18-year veteran of the department and assigned to the Indiana State Police Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Division.
This is an ongoing investigation, but as this time neither the use of alcohol nor narcotics is suspected as being a contributing factor in the crash.
