Fatal Marion Airport Crash In Hands Of Federal Officials

Federal officials have taken over the investigation of Monday’s airplane crash at the Marion Municipal Airport that left two Elwood men dead.
The accident happened when a small plane taking off from one runway crashed into the tail section of a corporate jet that had just landed on a different runway.  31-year old pilot Kyle Hibst and his friend…31-year old David Wittkamper…were both pronounced dead at the scene.
The five people aboard the jet…owned by the Avis Corporation of Upland…were not hurt.
Investigators from the Federal Aviation Administration and the National Transportation Safety Board are now investigating the crash.  A full report on the cause of the accident isn’t expected for at least a year.
