Fatal Marion Crash Involved Police Unit & MHS Students

Counselors will be on hand at Marion High School today following a weekend crash that killed a senior who was only three weeks away from graduating.
Shortly after 11 o’clock Friday night, a Marion Police squad car collided with another car at Third and Washington Streets as the Police unit was responding to a call.  The crash killed 18-year old Peyton Rogers…a senior at Marion High School.  Another student…18-year old Baleeve Gregory…was flown to Lutheran Hospital in Fort Wayne in critical condition.
Police say Rogers ran a red light into the intersection and was struck by the Police cruiser that was driven by 45-year old officer Brian Davis.  The officer had his lights and siren operating at the time and had a green light at the intersection.  Officer Davis received only minor injuries in the crash.
Counselors will be available at Marion High School today to help students with the situation.  Counseling is also being offered to the officers involved in the incident.
