Group Wants To Place Marker For 1930 Marion Lynching

A Huntington University Professor and an Alabama-based Civil Rights group yesterday approached the Grant County Commissioners about placing a marker on the courthouse lawn to commemorate the lynching of two black men there in 1930.
Jeff Heller…representing the Equal Justice Initiative…told the commissioners yesterday that the group wants to place a marker on the courthouse lawn to commemorate the two men who were dragged from the Grant County Jail by a mob and hung on the courthouse lawn.
The “Chronicle-Tribune” reports that the Commissioners said they had not received information that was e-mailed to them about the plan due to a computer error.  They asked for additional time to study the request.
