Marion City Council Passes Animal Safety Ordinance

The Marion City Council has taken first step in passing new legislation that will keep pets safe, just like children when it comes to being left in extreme conditions.
Council President Brad Luzadder says the ordinance will make it unlawful to not take proper precautions with pets in extreme heat or cold.
Luzadder says under the revised ordinance, owners could be fined if animals are left inside a vehicle when it’s 85 degrees or greater or outside unprotected when it’s 32 degrees or below.
A public hearing and second vote on the proposal will be held in early August.
