No Action On CAFO Proposal Monday Night

Although a large crowd was on hand and tensions ran high at times, no action of any kind was taken last night by the Grant County Area Plan Commission concerning a proposed confined animal feeding operation north of Marion, just off highway 15.
Plans for Nolan Holloway’s proposed CAFO that would house up to 92-hundred hogs in two buildings have already been approved by the state Department of Environmental Management.  But Holloway needs approval from the local board before he can proceed.  Many neighbors oppose the plan.
A proposal that would change the required setback for such a facility regarding its’ proximity to a church failed to gain approval or to be sent to the county commissioners for action.  According to the “Chronicle-Tribune,” that proposal would not affect Holloway’s plans, which came before the proposal was made.
A hearing on the plans is set for October first.  Plan Commission members are considering moving their meeting to a larger venue because of the anticipated large crowd that will likely be on hand.
