MCS Considers Full Week Off For Fall Break

The Marion School Board next month is expected to vote on a proposal to give students and teachers a full week off for Fall Break in 2019.  In the past, the school system has taken just two days off for Fall Break.
A recent survey found that more than 70-percent of teachers and students favor getting the full week off in October, versus just a four-day weekend.
But at least two school board members said at Tuesday night’s meeting that they are concerned about taking a full week off because many lower-income students rely on the school system for two meals a day and may not have a source for food during that time.
The “Chronicle-Tribune” reports the issue is expected to come up for a vote at the board’s December 11th meeting.
