Governor Says V-A Not Forced To Resign

Governor Eric Holcomb says he didn’t force the resignation of Indiana’s Director of Veterans Affairs.
Jim Brown resigned eight days after the “Indianapolis Star” reported Brown awarded department staffers grants from a fund created to help veterans in need.  Brown said the staffers qualified for the grant money.  Governor Holcomb says he’s been waiting to see the findings of a state audit before speaking out about the issue. That audit will also determine whether the state seeks new internal accounting controls on the fund.
Then-Governor Mike Pence appointed Jim Brown in 2013. Holcomb reappointed him last year. The governor says Brown simply felt it was time to go.  He’ll leave the post at the end of December.
