School Bus Safety Bill Gets Hearing In Legislature

No parent should ever have to bury their child.  That’s what the mother of three children who were killed crossing the highway to get on the school bus in late October in Fulton County said to members of the Indiana Senate yesterday. She spoke in support of a bill that would increase penalties for people who do not stop for stop arms on school buses.
State Senator Randy Head of Logansport said the bill also mandates that no child should have to cross a busy road or highway to get on a bus. He said the bill is not in its final form and may eventually include stop arm cameras for buses, and a school bus safety test when drivers renew their license.
