A Ball State Economics expert says the government shutdown didn’t slow job growth much in January.
The latest numbers show the U-S added 304-thousand jobs last month. Economist Michael Hicks at Ball State said he had only expected around 172-thousand to be added. Hicks says the only real impact the shutdown had was on the unemployment rate itself.
Since furloughed workers were eligible to collect unemployment, that inflated the national jobless rate to 4-percent in January. He also says the three-billion-dollar hit the economy took is minute with a Gross Domestic Product of 22-trillion dollars.
