BMV To Offer Third Choice For Gender On Licenses

Hoosiers will now have a third option for gender on their driver’s license or state I-D card.
The Indiana Bureau of Motor Vehicles will give residents a non-specified gender option, marked as an “X,” for those who identify as neither a male or female.
The B-M-V decided to offer the third gender option based on credential standards recommended by the American Academy of Motor Vehicle Administrators.
To request the designation, applicants will need to present a certified, amended birth certificate that attests to the gender change or a signed physician’s statement confirming a permanent gender change.
