Kokomo to build street-style skate park

A new “Urban Plaza” skate park will be constructed in Kokomo’s Foster Park near the playground area later this summer.
The design of the 12,455 sq. ft. skate park will have a street skating feel and will be close to the Walk of Excellence.
According to the city, the Mayor’s Office and the Parks Department worked closely with the local skateboarding community on design and location for the new skate park.
The city said local business owners Taylor Sherik, Matt Clark, and their team at Main Street Skatepark, were “instrumental” in helping design and identify what type of skate park the community needs and what skaters are looking for.
The free-to-skate park was designed with beginners and expert skaters in mind and includes features such as bowls, ramps, handrail boxes with a blend of varied skate terrain under LED lighting.
The skate park will be built at Foster Park’s east end, between the playground and the Wildcat Creek, in the area that is currently a parking lot. Additional parking will be added near the playground as a replacement.
Construction is set to begin this summer with a late summer opening.
