‘March on Marion’ hits 50 year anniversary tomorrow

Tomorrow (July, 20) marks the 50th anniversary of the March on Marion for civil rights.
The city’s black leaders, including Pearl Bassett, Roger Smith and his wife Glenn and others organized the event.
In special attendance was Milwaukee priest James Groppi who spoke on the square.
Groppi had been instrumental in securing fair housing in his home city and was a fiery spokesman for the movement to equality, according to Grant County Historian Bill Munn.
