BREAKING: Stabbing and armed robbery took place this morning only hours apart

This morning the Marion Police Department responded to both a stabbing and an armed robbery.
The first incident came at 12:10 a.m. in the 3600 block of South Washington St.
Twenty-six-year-old Jack Abbott Jr. reported that he had walked to the Circle K located at 38th and Washington St. Upon returning to his residence he took the alley between Washington and Wigger streets towards 37th St. Abbott stated that a white male approached him, tapped him on the side and stabbed him.
According to Capt. Stephen Dorsey of the Marion Police Department, Abbott reported that before the subject ran away he stated: “I got you bitch”.
Abbott told police that he didn’t immediately realize that he had been stabbed and advised that he contacted the police a few minutes later. Abbott described the suspect as a white male, long hair, glasses and khaki shorts.
Abbott was treated by Marion General Hospital medical staff. Abbott sustained a stab wound to his left side — just above his hip. Abbott’s injury was non-life-threatening.
This is an ongoing investigation.
A few hours later, at 4:14 a.m. today, MPD officers responded to the 300 Block of East River Blvd. for an armed robbery.
Joshua Purvis, 36, and Jessica King, 28, reported they were walking their dog in the area of Grant and Vine streets when a black male approached them from out of the darkness.
Purvis and King told police that the black male robbed them at gunpoint. The suspect took an undisclosed amount of currency and a cellular phone.
The suspect then fled the area running north towards Washington School Apartments. Purvis and King described the suspect as wearing a red hooded sweatshirt and jeans and displaying a black-in color handgun. Neither Purvis or King were injured.
This investigation is also active.
