Indy’s oldest public golf course closes amid new 30-year green space project

The oldest public golf course in the city of Indianapolis will be closing at the end of the summer.
The city is closing Riverside Golf Course, which first opened in 1900, as they plan to start a new project to replace it with green space, walking trails, tennis courts, and baseball diamonds.
It will be a slow process of building up the new amenities.
Planners have a timeline of about 25-30 years and the project will cost $67 million.
As for many of the golfers who still play at Riverside, many say the course is closing because not as many young people are playing the course as they used to.
