Northwestern Indiana man sentenced for scrapping, selling historic railroad bridge

A man from northwestern Indiana has been sentenced to two years in prison, for cutting up a historic railroad bridge and selling the metal.
The Northwest Indiana Times says Kenneth Morrison, 69, of Whiting, told the judge Thursday he’s been “scrapping all my life” and he takes metal from railroad tracks and bridges “all the time.”
Prosecutors say Morrison knew the Monon Bridge was owned by the city of Hammond and sold the metal to Indiana and Illinois scrap yards. Morrison says he plans to appeal his conviction.
