Legislators are discussing adding automatic cameras to catch speedsters
There are hefty fines for speeding in a work zone, but it’s hard to enforce because there’s no place to pull you over.
Indiana Constructors president Richard Hedgecock says five states have fought back with technology — lasers measure your speed and if you’re too far over the speed limit, a camera takes a picture of your license plate and police send you a ticket.
INDOT says there were nearly 900 crashes in work zones last year. 14 people were killed and more than 600 injured — about a fifth of those were highway workers.
