A fire destroyed a garage and caused damage to nearby property in Marion on Sunday night.
The fire occurred in the 700 block of Fifth St., according to Marion Fire Department Assistant Chief Kyle Miller.
Miller said he’s unsure what caused the fire because, by the time the department arrived on the scene, the garage was already burned to the ground.
“It began to catch another garage on fire, but we made a good stop on that,” Miller said. “It bubbled up the finish of a nearby pickup truck (and) destroyed a residences privacy fence.”
Miller’s biggest worry involved low power lines in the alley between Whites and Garfield avenues.
The fire occurred at an unoccupied home.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation, but Miller said it may be impossible to find out what caused the fire.
While combating the fire, one firefighter hurt his hand but did not require medical attention.
