Georgia woman wrongfully arrested after criticizing ex-husband on Facebook, receives $100,000 settlement

A Georgia woman who was arrested after criticizing her ex-husband on Facebook will receive a $100,000 settlement – and an apology.
In 2015, Anne King was arrested and sued for ‘criminal defamation’ for the post, which read “Feeling Overwhelmed – That moment when everyone in your house has the flu and you ask your kid’s dad to get them (not me) more Motrin and Tylenol and he refuses.”
King ended up spending four hours in jail over the incident and later sued the county. A federal judge called the arrest “absurd and unconstitutional,” pointing out that ‘criminal defamation’ isn’t even a real charge in Georgia.
Now the lawsuit has been settled for $100,000 and an apology from her ex and the magistrate who had her jailed, which King says is more important than the money.
