South Bend City Council passes strict cell phone ordinance

So much as touching your cell phone while driving in South Bend could come with some stiffer penalties if you’re caught.
The South Bend Common Council passed an ordinance last night banning the use of cell phones while driving within city limits.
The only exception is if you are talking on your cell phone hands-free or if you are calling first responders.
The ordinance allows police to use stiffer enforcement when they catching people holding their cell phones while driving.
A first offense ticket would run you about $75 and the penalties only go up from there for subsequent offenses.
