Marion Parks proposes dog park, splash pad and more. Now they want your opinion.

Marion Parks wants your input on its five year Master Plan proposal.
There’s plenty of big-ticket items in the plan. One of those is Wiggly Dog Park in 2021, to be located in Ballard Field, at an estimated cost of $400,000.

Another proposed item is a splash pad. Planning for this project would begin in 2021, with construction forecasted in 2024. While a specific location has yet to be determined, it’s expected to be located in the north of Marion, since the Splash House is located in South Marion.
For Marion’s trails and greenways, an estimated half-million dollar Riverwalk extension is in the works with a target opening date of 2022, plus an added bike lane for an estimated $60,000 in 2024.

The Riverwalk will be extended to continue east along the river into Ballard Field, connecting the park with Matter Park. This will also link to the new Wiggly Dog Park and eventually the new Washington St. Trail will link the Riverwalk to the Cardinal Greenway. This will allow people to connect from the north of Marion to the south of Marion by trail way.
The City is currently working on the funding for the Washington St. Trail, with construction projected to begin in 2021.
Matter Park will also see some upgrades, too. Proposed is $75,000 in playground equipment and an $80,000 concession stand. Both are projected to be installed in 2024.
