Local organizations launch ‘Encouragement Campaign’ to support front line workers, businesses

Several local organizations have launched a project – “Gift Cards for Thanks” – to support Grant County’s frontline workers and to give the local economy a boost at the same time.
“We’ve known for many years that Grant County is one of the most generous counties in the state of Indiana,” said Dawn Brown, President/CEO of the Community Foundation of Grant County. “Yet, after several weeks of sheltering in at home, it’s easy to feel a bit lonely or disconnected from other people. But, research on the science of happiness shows that the act of giving to help someone else, especially people like our healthcare workers, first responders, and essential employees, will not only help you to feel connected through a show of gratitude, but it will help boost the morale of our frontline workers who really need a heartfelt reminder that we really are all in this together.”
The project is a joint effort with Marion-Grant County Chamber of Commerce, United Way of Grant County, Community Foundation of Grant County, Gas City Area Chamber of Commerce and Upland Chamber of Commerce.
It allows donors to make a donation of any amount to purchase gift cards from local Chamber businesses which are then distributed to employees in frontline industries – healthcare, first responders, and essential employers.
“Our local businesses that rely on foot traffic are being severely impacted by the current COVID-19 crisis. Any way that we can support these businesses and show them how much Grant County cares for them is a huge victory at this time,” said Marion-Grant County Chamber of Commerce President/CEO Kylie Jackson.
There are several ways to get involved, according to the organizations.
First, you can make a donation to the Gift Cards for Thanks project at www.unitedwayofgrantcounty.org/giftcardsofthanks.
Second, use the hashtag #BigThanksSmallBiz on social media to raise awareness of the campaign by letting others know about the opportunity to support essential employees.
Third, treat yourself and support local businesses on your own.
Finally, challenge a friend or business to donate. Be proud of the impact you can have in Grant County and encourage others to do the same.
