Health Board undoes COVID-19 testing mandates

The Grant County Health Board held a special meeting last night where board members voted to undo mandates created at the June 22nd meeting.

Those mandates included having all public school employees in the county, as well as students in athletic and performing arts programs, tested for COVID-19 at least three weeks prior to the start of the 2020-2021 school year.

Grant County Health Officer Dr. David Moore said that with the state on the verge of reopening, health board and county attorneys thought the board’s authority to make such mandates would be rescinded. Moore also said that the state is back to reserving Optum-run COVID-19 tests for those who are exhibiting symptoms of or have been exposed to the virus.

State officials previously said any Hoosiers that wanted testing would be able to get it.

Moore said it would be inappropriate to mandate or recommend people get tested when testing might not be readily available.
