Emergency Management details “problematic spike” in COVID-19 cases

As of yesterday, Grant County recorded 572 cases of COVID-19, with a total of 28 deaths, according to Public Health Nurse Amber Turner.

Emergency Management Agency (EMA) Director Bob Jackson said that while the county had flattened the curve, previously averaging about 4 new cases a day,  Grant County is now experiencing another spike.

Jackson said from July 5 to July 19, the county averaged about 12 cases a day, describing the spike as “very problematic,” but he said its encouraging that most of these cases do not require hospitalization.

In the past two weeks, Grant County has recorded two more COVID-related deaths, one of those deaths was from July 6. Jackson said that there’s a 10-day delay in information between the county health department and the Indiana State Department of Health, which makes it difficult to respond accurately.

But EMA and the Emergency Operation Center have kept in touch with Marion General Hospital, longterm care facilities and local schools to make sure everyone is on the same page.
