Huntington County crash kills semi driver, closes all lanes on I-69

A crash on I-69 in Huntington County this morning has killed one person, with another airlifted to a nearby hospital.
The incident took place near mile markers 272 and 273 at around 7:30 a.m.
According to reports, police believe the driver may have fallen asleep, causing the semi to go off the northbound lanes of the interstate and crash into a concrete bridge support in the median.
Indiana State Police Sgt. Brian Walker said southbound lanes were completely covered in debris. There was a fire, and that fire affected the bridge over this immediate area. The driver of the semi was killed, according to WANE. A female passenger was thrown out of the semi. She was airlifted to a Fort Wayne hospital in critical condition.
Though the accident shut down both the northbound and southbound lanes, officials with the Huntington County Sheriff’s Department have reported that as on 11:50 a.m., the northbound lanes have reopened. It’s unclear if the southbound lanes have been reopened at this time.
