Dunkirk man faces allegations of setting his neighbor’s house

DUNKIRK, Ind. — A Dunkirk man is accused of setting his neighbor’s house on fire and then filing a false police report. Dunkirk police say on the night of Nov. 2, Paul A. Schick, 67, reported a fire at a home on 200 North Grand Street. Schick told police he saw two men standing near the house shortly before the fire started. Schick even provided police with a signed statement, detailing his experience. However, an officer later reported that, after the fire, Schick behaved suspiciously. Eventually, Schick admitted he used gasoline and matches to set the house on fire. He told police he “liked” a woman living inside the house, and felt like she was “ignoring” him. No injuries were reported. Last week, Schick was charged with arson, perjury and obstruction of justice.
