Officers with the Marion Police Department (MPD) are investigating a fatal weekend shooting.
According to  MPD Deputy Chief Stephen D. Dorsey, officers responded to the 3200 Block of South McClure Street on March 12, 2021, at approximately 7:55 p.m.,  for a shooting with a man down.
Upon police arrival to the area, police located a Caucasian male, later identified as 32-year-old Jason Hatton, lying on the ground. Hatton was transported to Marion General Hospital, but according to Dorsey, he died shortly thereafter due to his single gunshot injury.
Dorsey states that police located 20-year-old Chase Black, who they believe is the shooter.
According to police, Black reported that he was confronted by Hatton about the loudness of his vehicle, claiming Hatton then struck him in the mouth with a “Billy Club.” Dorsey states that Black reported that he then fired his 9mm handgun at Hatton, striking him.
