Indiana DWD plans to resume federal unemployment benefits soon, but some Hoosiers are still facing issues

Indiana expects to resume paying a $300 add-on to unemployment benefits on Friday, three weeks after a judge ordered it. The Department of Workforce Development says it’s been working to restart the expanded benefits since Marion Superior Judge John Hanley ruled Governor Holcomb didn’t have the authority to cut them off.
Indiana is one of 26 states to announce plans to stop paying the federally-funded extra payments, but judges in Indiana and Maryland have blocked that plan in those states.
Though the state has been ordered to restart expanded unemployment benefits, there is still some confusion from some Hoosiers who are being ordered to repay their benefits.
Joann Reffitt is a school portrait photographer. She tells WISH-TV her employer advised her to file for unemployment as they were planning to shut down because of the pandemic. Well, it seems there is a mix-up over when they shut down. She’s been ordered to repay nearly four grand — even though she was approved to receive those benefits.
