DHS extends deadline for Real ID

Still need to get your Real ID? You’ve got plenty of time. Because of COVID-19, the Department of Homeland Security has moved the deadline from Oct. 1 of this year to May 3, 2023. From then on, you’ll need to show a Real ID card to fly within the US. Real IDs aren’t mandatory. You can still renew your driver’s license without getting the special designation — just don’t expect to be let on a domestic flight after the deadline.
