indiana garnishes Johnson County man’s wages during appeal of overpaid unemployment benefits

The state is garnishing the wages of one man in Johnson County who won his appeal in order to not repay the unemployment benefits he received. Bartley Baker was told in November to repay 83-hundred dollars in unemployment by the state. He filed an appeal and a judge ruled in his favor. But — right before that decision was made imagine Baker’s surprise when he learned the state had already started garnishing his wages in order to repay his debt. When he sent the state a copy of the court ruling. The state told him he had to re-verify his identity. He’s done that — but as of Monday, any income he receives is still at risk of being withheld.
