National Day of Prayer – Kokomo

The Howard County’s participation in the National Day of Prayer will take place on Thursday, May 4, 2017 on the east side of the square in Downtown Kokomo beginning at noon. Everyone is invited to come and join forces with those in our community who will be diligently seeking God on behalf of the many facets of our local, state, and national government. This is an opportunity to unite with others in corporate prayer asking God for help, healing, guidance, direction, wisdom, and understanding for all those who govern, police, teach, parent, preach, present the news, and guide our city, our state, and our country. The observance of the National Day of Prayer is founded on the constitutional rights of freedom of speech and freedom of religion and can be celebrated by all Americans.
“The President shall issue each year a proclamation designating the first Thursday in May as a National Day of Prayer on which the people of the United States may turn to God in prayer and meditation at churches, in groups, and as individuals. (Public Law 105-225)
It is not a political event. The National Day of Prayer, as designated by our government, belongs to all Americans. It is not sponsored or owned by any one group. The National Day of Prayer Task Force concentrates on the need to pray for the well-being of America and for those in leadership on all levels of national, church and educational areas of influence.
In case of inclement weather, the event will be held at Grace United Methodist Church, 219 W. Mulberry St., downtown Kokomo.
